The winter sports season is a highlight in the School year, with our boys competing in the Athletic Association of the Great Public Schools (AAGPS) competitions across Rugby, Football, Volleyball and Cross Country.聽
To lead each聽of the teams and sports聽into the season聽the聽Masters in Charge (MIC) have selected young men who model exemplary values and character of Kingsmen and have displayed consummate leadership qualities.
To lead the 1sts Volleyball this season, Volleyball MIC Mr Bobby Gange has selected Year 12 student Jonathan.聽
According to Mr Gange, 鈥淛onathan has been an exceptional leader for our Volleyball team this season.聽Despite his quiet and unassuming demeanour, Jonathan inspires his teammates to strive for excellence, not only聽on the volleyball court聽but also聽in academics and community involvement鈥�.聽
We look forward to聽seeing聽strong聽results from the team under Jonathan鈥檚 leadership.聽
Captain of the Cross Country team聽for this season聽will be Year 12 student Jackson.聽Jackson has been a valued member of the Cross Country team for many years聽according聽to MIC of Cross Country Mr Ben Gavan, who is confident he will be a strong leader for聽what is聽a young Senior Cross Country team.聽
鈥淗e (Jackson) is an outstanding runner who not only leads with his performances but also with his positive personality and strong work ethic; traits that make him a wonderful role model for our 90-strong team,鈥� says Mr Gavan.聽
Under Jackson鈥檚 leadership, the team will look to gain valuable experience and be a strong force in the very competitive AAGPS competition.聽
To lead the Rugby program at King鈥檚, MIC Mr Patrick Hilgendorf took into account the history and context of the sport at the School.聽
Ultimately聽two聽leaders were selected, Year 12 students Isamu and Charlie,聽both of whom聽have been part of the senior Rugby squad since Year 10.聽
Speaking of聽the selections, Mr Hilgendorf says, 鈥淚samu is a natural leader around the School and has established a great culture leading Bishop Barker Harris along with his executive monitor character portfolio. He is selfless, looking out for others and reinforcing the School values on and off the field鈥�.聽
鈥淐harlie is a natural leader on and off the field whose actions speak louder than his words. His work ethic and determination towards all aspects of his school life are highly commendable,鈥� says Mr Hilgendorf.聽
MIC of Football, Mr Peter Denyer, has also selected two captains to lead the Football program this year.
Year 12 students Toby and Josh have聽been selected聽to lead the team in what will be a competitive AAGPS competition.聽
Mr Denyer says, 鈥淭oby is the quintessential leader who has rallied the boys to get to training sessions beginning in October of 2023, the聽team respects him as a player, leader and a young gentleman鈥�.聽
鈥淛osh leads by example, with his dedication and on-field performances. He is in his 4thseason as a 1st XI player and聽was selected聽in the AAGPS representative side聽which聽played in the CIS championships,鈥� says Mr Denyer.聽
